Hello curious person
I never thought I'd teach yoga online. I never thought I'd love teaching yoga online. What did I know? I offer it weekly and absolutely love it.
There's a lot of die hard fans of in-person yoga and I can completely understand why. However, an online yoga class can be a wonderful experience for the following five reasons that's harder to achieve in-person. This might be your sign to come and give it a try!
1. You can turn comfort up to 100%
You get to practise in the comfort of your own home and you can show up however you want to. Want to practise in pyjamas? That's cool. Want to start the class seated in a chair? Go for it. Want to enjoy relaxation on your sofa or your bed? Perfect. You have the luxury of calling upon anything you need whilst at home including your favourite blankets and pillows to get super comfortable at the end.
2. You can do what's right for you
You are the captain of the ship. I'm just here to offer you the outline of the practice with suggestions throughout. You, on the other hand, have full autonomy to decide what you want to do and what you don't want to do. There's no expectations or obligations. It turns off any of that external influence because, in 99% of my experience, everyone, but me, has their camera turned off. Isn't it spectacular that there's something on offer where you can decide every single thing you do for one hour? When I think about this I'm always so shocked by how much of my life is decided by external influences.
3. You have the choice to connect with your peers
We have those couple of moments at the beginning where you can say hi and check in. Alternatively, you can join and start your practice as soon as you're connected. A lot of people say that they like the group vibe when they're in-person but the reality is, between the start and end of class, you know you are part of a collective. A group of people, geographically apart, all coming together at the same time to do the same thing. I think that's pretty special in this mad, busy world.
4. You don't have to rush
There's nothing worse than racing around or waiting about. I've always found that in-person classes mean you're 45 minutes early and sat in some dark car park or you're racing from work directly to the venue to get there, by the skin of your teeth, on time. With online classes, you can get home, relax and slowly prepare yourself for the class. The most special part is when the class finishes and you can head straight to your sofa/bed and relax some more without the drive.
5. You just need a mat sized space available
Location, location, location. Firstly, you're no longer location dependant. You can attend class even if you're in a hotel, seeing family someplace else or simply away from home. You just need a mat sized space in whatever room you can find. We all travel for many different reasons and online classes means you can maintain your routine, if you choose to. Secondly, it means you don't have to live in a 10-mile radius to work with me! I'm now connecting with people all over the UK and further afield.
Have I twisted your arm? Come along and give it a try because it is honestly lovely. You know I wouldn't offer it if I didn't believe in it. I teach a class every Monday from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.
Also, if you've read this and you nodded your head based on your personal experience, I'd love to hear about it in the comments!
Thank you so very much
Sam
I love the online classes. I've done a small bit of yoga in the past from videos but knowing there is someone there directly showing/teaching you makes it so much more personal. And Sam really knows how to ensure that you perform to what is right for you, giving you several variations of the moves.
