August Update - Part 2

Hey curious person

I was cut short when I was writing my August Update initially. It sounds very glamour but the first part was cut short because we were being asked to place our personal devices into airplane mode. Upon my return to the UK, I circled back to this newsletter to completed the second part. My feelings had completed changed after a week unplugged. Here's a copy of that correspondence.

I've added some extra photos from my trip, at the bottom of this blog, because Valencia is the most gorgeous city.

Enjoy reading

Hello there

I’m back from my holiday feeling refreshed and replenished. I slowed right down, cooked in the sun and read plenty of books. I mentioned that I had more to say in my previous email (click here to read that email) but those words have evolved now that I’ve switched off for a week.

Classes continue tomorrow as normal. We’re continuing to expand our tabletop-based sequence as we work on enhancing our strength, connection and ease whilst loading weight into our wrists. Click here to book your class.

You successfully managed to plant seeds in my mind! It was great to hear back from you about what you would like to explore in classes. I’ve made a note of your suggestions.

I had the joy of reading a book that explains how I feel about teaching yoga. It’s a complicated relationship. Yes, it is work, but it’s also a core part of who I am. The boundaries of where yoga (work) ends and yoga (personal) begins are very blurred because they’re so interwoven. The following passage is from the perspective a character, who is an author, in the novel. This paragraph eloquently explained how I feel about the subject, the practice, the study of yoga:

“Writing requires complete commitment. One may do but one thing: write. One must not allow oneself to be distracted. One must dedicate oneself completely to the book, sacrifice everything else. It is a vocation, it is a religion into which one is initiated. Do you realise that, even when I am not writing, I am writing nevertheless? Time spent in contemplation, in observation, in society, in idleness, all of these contribute to the task of writing. When it appears that I am indolent, a vice for which I am often reproached, I am, in truth, working on a book. I live only to write. It is impossible to do otherwise.”

— In the Absence of Men, Philippe Besson

This much better explains what I was trying to say about how I falsely declaring that I will not work whilst on holiday. It is impossible.

The offer still stands, by the way. If there is anything that you want to explore within our practice then please let me know. I am open to suggestions! Our classes should run like clockwork throughout August and September. As I mentioned previously, I’ve pushed our next Friday Night Yoga Nidra to November (click here to book) due to parking complications and I recommend you plan for September as I generally see an increase in attendance.

What else is there to share? I’d like to rename our classes to something that better represents what I offer, but a new name evades me. This is processing in a corner of my subconscious somewhere and it will eventually happen. As you also know, I’m attending a training course throughout October that I hope will enrich my practice further and, with time, will do the same for our classes. Finally, I am actively continuing my quest to practise what I preach.

I will see you on the mat shortly

Sam
